Intitutions that are interested in requesting grants to
The Robert D. Ehret Good Samaritan Foundation
should meet the following general guidelines and requirements:

  1. Must possess a non-profit certification issued by the Puerto Rico Treasury Department. They must comply with all the legal and statutory requirements and hold all the necessary operating permits and licenses.
  2. The entity should demonstrate that they have all the required technical and organizational capabilities to provide the type of services they offer to the community.
  3. Funding requests for services and/or projects should respond to a real need of the community in the areas comprised within the objectives of the Foundation, with a perceived qualitative and quantitative impact, otherwise they will not be considered.
  4. Funding will be provided for programs or projects to be completed within a year from the time the grant is given. On exceptional circumstances funds will be awarded to programs to be completed for up to 3 years.
  5. The entity should accept to visited by the Foundation's personnel to meet their personnel, see their facilities, see the quality and quantity of services being given to the community. In addition, after the grant is given a visit can be made to verify that the funds were used for the purposes requested.
  6. Evidence of the used of funds such as invoices and payment evidence should be submitted. If the funds were used for a project exceeding a year, a progress report should be prepared.
  7. Funds awarded should be used for the purpose requested and approved. If necessary, an authorization should be requested to change the use of the funds awarded.
  8. Contributions will not be granted to:
    • Individuals or to the direct benefit of an individual
    • For individual scholarships
    • For ongoing operating expenses (salaries, professional services, utilities, rent, etc.)
    • Cover operational deficits
    • Political or lobbying entities or those supporting the candidacy of a particular individual
    • Fund-raising-events, conferences, or benefits, including sponsoring dinners, tickets or courtesy advertising
    • Directly to government agencies or their divisions and/or subdivisions
  9. Funds will be awarded once a year. Proposals will be available to the entities during July.
  10. The Foundation usually receives more requests than the available funds. Unfortunately, although some worthy requests will not be awarded.
